I received a Note From The Universe, my all time favorite email to receive each morning, and it said something that really hit me kinda hard:

“Do your earthly things. Do all of them. Move with your dreams. Not because of what you may or may not achieve, but because you love life… “

I know. It’s a bit cheesy and a bit of a twist on the classic “it’s the journey not the destination,” but it felt like something more than that — bigger than that (perhaps because, well, it came from the Universe).

Instead of celebrating failures, celebrate that you had the opportunity to fail. You know that feeling when you’re playing some pick-up sport with your friends and you’re laughing, goofing and not really keeping score, because you don’t even care if you win, you’re just having fun? Yeah. That’s it. It’s not about what you achieve, it’s about how much you love the moment, love your friends, love the feeling of being alive. What if we could hold on to that feeling in the everyday?

We lead ourselves. We lead others. We win some. We lose some. We have good days and bad. But you know what? We still have days. Good days follow bad days. Disappointment follows wins. No single moment defines a whole. But the whole is made up of countless moments along the spectrum. And because you love life, because you are excited about being able to play the game, because you wake up each morning and get to try again, because dreams come and dreams go but dreams are always possible, because of all of that and more: “Do your earthly things. Do all of them. Move with your dreams. Not because of what you may or may not achieve, but because you love life.”

The Universe said it’s ok. And you likely do love life, even if you forget that once in a while.

And, when you remind yourself of that, you get to offer the same gift, the same celebration, the same perspective and feeling, to those you lead.
